A Journey Beneath the Surface

Consistently recognized as one of the premier geological attractions in the Mediterranean, the Coves del Drach extend over a 1,200-metre route that descends nearly 25 metres below the surface. First explored systematically in 1896 by the pioneering French speleologist Édouard-Alfred Martel, this vast underground system features thousands of delicate, needle-like stalactites and massive stalagmites carved over millions of years.

Lake Martel and the Underground Concert

The highlight of the journey is Lake Martel, one of the largest underground lakes in the world, measuring 117 metres in length and 30 metres in width. Visitors are seated in a natural amphitheatre to witness a live ten-minute classical music concert, featuring compositions by Chopin and Caballero, performed by musicians on illuminated wooden boats gliding across the dark water. Afterwards, travellers can opt for a brief boat ride across the lake to the final exit path.
