The Bohemian Paradise

Cala Varques is a pristine, undeveloped beach nestled within a rocky cove, framed by low limestone cliffs and lush pine forests. Known for its soft, brilliant white sand and exceptionally clear turquoise water, the cove preserves a relaxed, bohemian atmosphere devoid of commercial hotels, beach clubs, or sunbed rentals. Snorkellers and swimmers can explore marine caves, rocky ledges, and a spectacular natural rock arch located just a short distance along the coast.

The 2026 Access and Parking Reality

Due to significant environmental pressure and traffic congestion in recent years, the Council of Mallorca has permanently closed off the old, disused section of the Ma-4014 road that visitors previously used for informal parking. Concrete bollards and red-and-white markers block all unauthorized vehicles, and a physical barrier limits road access strictly to local residents. Roadside parking along the main Ma-4014 highway is dangerous, strictly prohibited, and subject to heavy fines and towing by the police.

How to Reach Cala Varques on Foot

  1. 1

Park at the public lot in Cala Romàntica

The only legal starting point for land access

  2. 2

    Follow the marked coastal trail

Roughly one hour along rugged sea cliffs

  3. 3

    Wear supportive footwear

Uneven, rocky terrain with prickly Mediterranean scrub — no flip-flops

  4. 4

    Carry water, sunscreen and shade

There are no services, shops, or freshwater sources at the cove

On calm days, anchoring a private boat or chartered yacht over the wide, shallow sandy shelf of the bay offers an exceptional alternative. Boaters can anchor in four to six metres of water and swim directly to the beach.
